Eminem is officially back and ready to say goodbye to his infamous alter ego, Slim Shady.
The Grammy-winning rapper confirmed on Thursday that he’s releasing his twelfth studio album, ‘The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)’, this summer.
The announcement came via Instagram, where Eminem shared a teaser trailer that had originally aired prior to his appearance at the 2024 NFL Draft.
The album signals a significant shift, as Slim Shady has been a core part of Eminem’s persona since the late 1990s.
This also marks his first full-length album since 2020’s surprise release, ‘Music to Be Murdered By’.
The trailer delivers a dramatic tone, with a fictional true crime reporter declaring the death of Slim Shady. “Through his complex and oft-criticized, tongue-twisting rhymes, the blonde anti-hero known as Slim Shady has had no shortage of enemies,” the reporter intones. Fellow rapper 50 Cent weighs in: “He’s not a friend, he’s a psychopath.” With this trailer, he has officially confirmed the end of his alter ego, Slim Shady.
Ending with a promise to explore the events surrounding Slim Shady’s demise, the trailer builds suspense for the upcoming release.
The album news follows both a playful April Fools’ Day joke by Eminem and March comments from Dr. Dre, who indicated on Jimmy Kimmel Live that an Eminem album was on the way in 2024.
